Function and Applications

These "glasses" make it possible to learn a conditional reflex in a simple way: A short puff of air from a nozzle triggers a reflex to close the eyelids. If this process is combined with an acoustic signal (whistle), the sound signal alone is sufficient to trigger eyelid closure after a short training period. However, if this "blind alarm" is given too often, the reflex is extinguished again (extinction). This type of learning became known through investigations of the Russian researcher Pavlov on dogs.
The experiments described take place quickly. The nozzles inside the goggles are adjustable to the distance between the eyes of the subject. With a small peg to close a nozzle, the experiment can also be performed on one side. With whistle and text
