Principle

In this experiment students prepare two alloys, brass and bronze. With this experiment students realize that the simplest way of preparation alloys is by melting the individual components together. The reaction of the bronze with hydrochloric acid demonstrates the students that an alloy is a "mixture of substances" and not a compound.

Learning objectives

  • Preparation of alloys
  • Brass and bronze
  • Alloys are mixtures not compounds
