Principle

In this experiment, the students investigate the refraction of light on passing from air to glass and measure the angle of refraction β for a given angle of incidence α. At the end, they should come to a conclusion about this relationship and should be able to formulate a principle.
With the aid of selected values for the angle of incidence α and also taking the value of α = 0°, they should understand the general validity of Snell's law of refraction in a qualitive form and the conditions for its validity.

Benefits

  • Multifunctional light box - All-in-one: Can be used for geometric optics on the table, colour mixing and on an optical bench
  • Extension with others sets at anytime, no additional light sources needed, recognition value for students

Tasks

What does refraction of light mean?

  1. Investigate the behaviour of narrow light beams at the boundary between air and glass.
  2. Measure the angle of refraction as a function of the angle of incidence of light passing from air to glass.
