Principle

This experiment shows how great the effect of exact alignment of the test tube and the parabolic trough is on the heating of the water. Even a small focal point offset results in distinctly weaker heating.

Exact alignment is important in larger plants for the highest possible efficiency to be reached.

This principle is also used in solar cookers for food. In this case, the pot must be at the focal point of the reflector for high efficiency and so rapid heating.

The influence of the exact positioning of an absorber in a parabolic trough is to be clearly shown in this experiment. A temperature measurement series is to be carried out in each of the two parts and a comparison then be made.

Benefits

  • Experiment is part of a complete solution set with a total of 26 experiments for Renewable Energy solar cells, wind power, water power
  • Safe experimentation: the lamp is protected against touch, the housing is well ventilated with the aid of holes and is only slightly heated
  • The power supply used is versatile and is particularly suitable for pupil tests for all ages

Tasks

Is the position of the test tube in the parabolic trough important?
